The Carnival of Dirt is a gathering of people to highlight the death and destruction caused by mining companies to people, communities and the planet.
The event starts at 11am where people will assemble outside St Paul’s Cathedral for a funeral procession (wear black), in memory of those activists and community leaders who have been killed trying to defend their communities and speaking out against the injustice.
Mining and extraction companies such as Glencore, Xstrata, BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Vedanta, Anglo American, Shell and BP are responsible for destroying communities by polluting water and soil essential for life and health in the regions in which they operate, they also corrupt political systems and cause ecocide. These corporations act with impunity. Your pension fund almost certainly supports them (even the ‘ethical’ ones).
